Molded Case Circuit Breaker (MCCB)

Call for Price

A molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) is a safety device that protects electrical circuits from damage caused by excessive current, short circuits, or overloads. When an MCCB detects a fault or overcurrent condition, it automatically shuts off the power supply to prevent damage to the electrical system. MCCBs can also be used to isolate circuits for maintenance.

MCCBs are often used in large-scale PV systems instead of miniature circuit breakers (MCBs) because they can handle a wider range of voltages and frequencies, and have adjustable trip settings. They are typically installed in distribution panels and have a visible indication to show when the power is off. MCCBs are available in a variety of ratings, from 30A to 6000A and higher, and can cost between $200 and $500 or more, depending on their size, features, and application.

MCCBs have four main components: operating mechanism, frame, arc distinguisher, and trip unit.

Some MCCBs also have additional features, such as:
  • Thermal overload protection device (TOU)
Automatically disconnects the line when it reaches an overvoltage condition
